Dr Matthew Coon Come, OC, is a renowned activist, environmentalist, and leader born in 1956 near Mistissini, Quebec. Former Chief of his home community of Mistissini from 1981 to 1986, he served as Grand Chief of the Grand Council of the Crees for 20 years (1987–99, 2009–17) and National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations from 2000 to 2003. Gaining national and international recognition, he played a pivotal role in opposing the James Bay hydroelectric project in the 1990s, asserting Cree self-determination, and championing Indigenous rights worldwide. Come and meet this key figure who has tirelessly worked for his people for over 40 years.

Dr. Matthew Coon Come, O.C., est un militant, environnementaliste et leader renommé, né en 1956 près de Mistissini, au Québec. Ancien chef de sa communauté natale de Mistissini de 1981 à 1986, il a servi en tant que Grand Chef du Grand Conseil des Cris pendant 20 ans (1987–99, 2009–17) et Chef national de l'Assemblée des Premières Nations de 2000 à 2003. Reconnu tant au niveau national qu'international, il a joué un rôle central dans l'opposition au projet hydroélectrique de la Baie-James dans les années 1990, affirmant l'autodétermination des Cris et défendant les droits des peuples autochtones à travers le monde.
